Sunday 22nd February

Benny the Barrel ( also known to Norwegian friends as “Tønnesen” kind permission of Harald.)came to breakfast. Picture attached of him sitting beside K and hoping for some of her breakfast. Day of rest, though carnival has started today in all the neighbouring villages. It seems to be largely for the kids in the villages, though our informants tell us there are plenty of attractive and scantily dressed girls in the larger carnivals in for example Loule which is apparently famous.
No carnival for us today as it is a boules (or petanque) day here in Larga Vista. Kathryn decided she needed more practice before making a public appearance on the petanque ground so went for a bike ride, but Ninian played and had a good time re-establishing contacts with the members of the group. Good to see them all again as they are a really cheerful friendly crowd. Kathryn returned in time for not very good, but cheerful and boozy lunch with them and we then both collapsed in the afternoon and sat in the sun our terrace. Warmest day we have had so far.
