Friday, 27th March

Didnt get round to writing anything yesterday. Bike ride in morning with coffee in Paderne. Lunch at local restaurant called "Paradise of Algarve" (Paradaiso do Algarve). Made the mistake of opting for the dish of the day which was described as Portuguese pork stew. ( Thought we'd go local.....big mistake!). It turned out to be a mound of unidentified bits of pig including something that looked like penis, bits of sausage, lumps of fat and cabbage boiled to destruction in the meat juices. Both sat there trying to pretend it was an interesting experience rather than a nightmare one, but admitted afterwards it was a nightmare one. The good thing about it was that it only cost six euros!
An added feature of thr whole affair was they are rebuilding the restaurant and we sat outside to the accompaniment of a large and noisy wet concrete polishing machine.
After lunch in need of peace and quiet and feeling a bit queasy, went off to explore the coast a bit and found fabulous new cove beaches ( tiny coves with beautiful fine sand) and almost deserted. Great for paddling, but still a bit chilly for swimming. On the way to the coast called in at the English shop in Algoz which has managed to collect all the ultra British things you can imagine. (Marmite, baked beans, sticky toffee pudding in tins,,Ambrosia creamed rice, HP Sauce etc etc)
Went back to same beaches today and explored further. Still very quiet, though a number of large mounds of bright pink flesh scattered about. (Probably British walruses). We have also been collecting flower pictures for a blog slideshow.
Tonight we are off to the Larga Vista Boules Club annual dinner/dance. Went last year and it was fun.
